The closure of two major nickel mines may lead to a reduction of 33,000 tons in nickel market supply in 2014. According to foreign media reports, in the past week, two major nickel mines announced production cuts, which are expected to result in a decrease of 33,000 tons in the nickel market supply for 2014. Brazil's Votorantim Metals announced that it will temporarily close the Fortaleza de Minas nickel plant due to the current poor market conditions. The company stated that the decision to halt production stems from a severe imbalance between global nickel supply and demand, leading to a significant drop in nickel prices. The nickel plant has an annual production capacity of 18,000 tons and is scheduled to cease operations in November this year.

Stainless Steel Market: Rising in the First Quarter, Then Falling, and Rebounding in the Second Quarter
In the first quarter, nickel prices in London showed a trend of rising first and then falling, and the domestic stainless steel market prices closely followed the trend of nickel prices. According to relevant industry statistics, in the first quarter, China's crude stainless steel production was approximately 4.4 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 13.6%. The increase in production mainly came from some newly commissioned integrated capacities for nickel iron and stainless steel.

The plan includes completing railway investments of 800 billion yuan, highway investments of 1.8 trillion yuan, and starting the construction of over 2,000 kilometers of urban underground comprehensive utility tunnels, which will drive the demand for related steel products such as rails and pipeline steel.
